Tiny beautiful things

Two nights ago I discovered Tiny Beautiful Things sitting on the bottom shelf of my bookshelf. I finished reading it last night. So many of the columns were an absolute affirmation for me of the things I know to be true - hard things about letting go, about forgiveness, about acceptance and love and bravery.

I know this is a book I will read again and again and again. The type of book where you're caught between carrying on because you just can't wait for the next revelation, and going back because you want to make sure you got everything the first time around.

One of my favourite quotes comes from the last column in the book: the Tiny Beautiful Things column. It is apt, I thought, for Easter too: redemption, forgiveness, starting over.

Your life will be a great and continuous unfolding. You will come to know things that can only be known with the wisdom of age and the grace of years. Most of those things will have to do with forgiveness. Most things will be okay eventually, but not everything will be. Sometimes you'll put up a good fight and lose. Sometimes you'll hold on really hard and realise there is no choice but to let go.

Acceptance is a small, quiet room.

This Easter played out so differently from last year. I am so profoundly thankful for that. Not dwelling on the past, not speculating on the future: just grateful for the miracle that is here, and now.

Our day in pictures.

Tiny beautiful things, everywhere.

Happy Easter.
